Extraction of Essential Oils
There are many different types of extraction methods that can be used when it comes to essential oils. It really depends on the type of plant or herb you are working with which determines the type of extraction method used. The most cost effective and popular method of extracting essential oils is distillation. This process covert the essential oils into a vapor and then condenses the vapor back into liquid. You can use water, steam or hydro distillation to complete this process. Huge quantities of raw plants are required to create pure oils. Imagine using 1000kg of rose petals to extract 1kg of pure essential oil. This enplanes why pure oils tend to be so expensive. Expression Method
Expression is another type of extraction which is used mainly to extract citrus oils. Expression is a cold pressed method of extraction which is normally done with a sponge. Lastly, solvent extraction is used to coax oils out of botanical materials.Uses for Essential Oils

alternative medicine claims that specific aromas by essential oils have curing constituents. These oils are diluted in an oil carrier or used in massage therapy to help treat and cure patients.

There are dangers associated with some essential oils when they are diluted they should not be applied directly to the skin. Some can provoke serious rashes or even allergic reactions if not applied correctly. If you are choosing a treatment where you are required to ingest an essential oil, you should speak with a herbal specialist and follow their directions for your own safety. Essential oils are generally a safe practice of herbal medicine when done correctly.
