Different Origins of Herbalism
Herbalism is a type of traditional or folk medicine that focuses on the use of plants and plant extracts to heal or prevent illness and disease. Herbalism has many different names such as, botanical medicine, herbology, phytotherapy and the list goes on and on. As this is in fact an ancient form of healing, the names have been created throughout the generations and have stayed with this form of healing. Herbalism is a type of healing that does not stop with humans, many people have found that these herbal healing methods work wonders on animals as well.
Types of herbal healing
There are many different types of herbal healing available today, so many different types in fact that you may have experienced herbal healing medicines and not even realized it. Some medicine plants are available for anyone to use, such as in salad and herbal teas, although there are many different types of herbal plants and extracts that have been deemed to dangerous for the public. These more dangerous herbs can be provided to you by an herbal specialist and these specialists have been known to grow or “wildcraft” their own herbs. Many common weeds also have healing properties, weeds such as the dandelion can be used for example as a Natural Diuretic.
Use Caution
Many misconceptions exist with this form of medicine, such as natural means that all of these herbal medicines are safe. This is not necessarily true because toxins and chemicals do exist in every plant. Although many of the herbal healing medicines and plants show extraordinary results on many people, it is always important to check with your physician to get their opinion on the matter. When it comes to herbal healing medicines and traditions, it is something that you need to research fully before you decide to try creating any of your own traditional healing products.
